A Sweet, Sneaky Treat

By Armande Liboiron

Being born and raised in a small farm house, many wonderful and dreadful adventures sparked my childhood.

We were 7 children: 6 boys and 1 girl. Lucky Me!

I had my own tiny bedroom: a small sleeping cot, a room cluttered with a washing machine, hamper filled with filthy clothes, mops, pails of all sorts, a food pantry and a deep freeze full of goodies.

Having sneaked a tablespoon, hidden under my thin mattress, whenever I was alone in my room, door shut, I would treat myself with a fully loaded ice cream cone. Not only one, but two or three cones. What a delight!

After many months, my mother discovered my clever habit…locked the freezer. That ended my sumptuous treats!
